WordPlay: Creative Writing Workshop Series
The art of creative writing emanates from the meaning and emotional movement of words--a malleable landscape we will explore by tapping into our own somatic energetic expressions. Grounding our explorations with embodiment and breath work, we will engage several creative writing and thinking processes, including embodied mark-making to bring to the surface deeply held knowing and awareness. No prior art or writing experience needed.
Participants will learn a variety of creative writing and thinking processes that may be applied to any personal writing project or goal--whether that's writing poetry, creative nonfiction essays or entire novels. By combining playful thought explorations with basic embodiment and breath practices, you'll learn to create uniquely meaningful and informative artistic expressions.
No prior writing experience needed. Each workshop contains new material and activities. All materials are included although students are encouraged to bring their own notebook, sketchbook, or laptop.
Personal Hieroglyphics: A Depth-Oriented Creative Process
for Embodied Expression and Inner Knowing
In this workshop, participants will explore their somatic energetic expressions through the practice of embodied mark-making. Depth practices of embodiment, breath, and presence work inform our markings and bring to the surface deeply held knowing and awareness.
You will learn a creative process that may be applied to any personal project or goal, combining basic embodiment and breath practices with the deceptively simple art process or mark-making as a means of producing uniquely meaningful and informative artistic expressions.
All materials are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own notebook, sketchbook, or coloring utensils.
See, Feel, Say: An Ekphrasis Workshop for Bridging
Image and Insight for Deeper Artistic Expression
In this workshop, participants will learn how to apply the practice of Ekphrasis, an ancient Greek form of poetry/writing in response to a visual art form. This practice creates a bridge between the visual/somatic experience and one’s own artistic sensibilities and expression. This workshop combines elements of non-representational mark-making and inquiry to encourage deeper awareness and creative insight. No prior experience is needed.
All materials will be provided, but students may prefer to bring their own sketchbooks, journals, and markers or crayons.
